From:   http://finance.yahoo.com

MOSCOW, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Russia's central bank unexpectedly cut its main interest rate on Friday as fears of recession mount in the country following the fall in global oil prices and Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis.

The bank reduced its one-week minimum auction repo rate by two points to 15 percent, a little over a month after pushing it up by 6.5 points to 17 percent after a run on the rouble.

The bank had been widely expected not to change the rate.

MC2 Post 1970 Windows Weekly Thurrott and Hands-On with Microsoft HoloLens

From:   https://www.thurrott.com

Paul's impressions:

I just concluded about an hours-worth of hands-on time with Microsoft’s intriguing HoloLens, an augmented reality (AR) headset that will ship publicly at roughly the same time as Windows 10. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take any pictures, record any video, or other document the experience digitally. But I did come away impressed.

MC2 Post 1969 Yeah You CAN Build Just about anything with a 3D Printer

World's first 3D-printed apartment building

constructed in China

A Chinese company has successfully 3D printed a five-storey apartment building and a 1,100 square metre villa from a special print material.

The 3D printer array, developed by Ma Yihe, who has been inventing 3D printers for over a decade, stands 6.6 metres high, 10 metres wide and 40 metres long (20 by 33 by 132 feet). This fabricates the parts in large pieces at WinSun's facility. The structures are then assembled on-site, complete with steel reinforcements and insulation in order to comply with official building standards.

MC2 Post 1966 Disney's Beachbot is an artistic robot turtle

The robotic turtle above can't wield katanas, eat pizza or shout cowabunga, but it can still do something awesome: draw big sand sketches on the beach.

It's named "Beachbot" and was developed by a team from ETH Zurich and the Zurich division of Disney Research, a network of labs responsible for some really fun projects in the past year. Beachbot draws on the sand by controlling the pressure it puts on a rake attached to its body: that's the easy part anyway.
