Samsung Dire Earnings Report

Samsung's earnings this past quarter have been exactly as downbeat as the company predicted: operating profit is down 60 percent and income from sales is now 20 percent smaller than a year ago. In other words, Samsung's spending more money to generate smaller revenues

Roku and Amazon Fire Stick Jump into the Stream

"The Waters are Fine, If We don't Drown..."

From:  http://www.theverge.com

Amazon is finally taking on the Chromecast. This morning it's introducing the Fire TV Stick, a streaming device that exists entirely in a small dongle that plugs into a TV's HDMI port. Amazon says that the Fire TV Stick offers the "same experience" as the full Fire TV, which was introduced back in April. It can play games and is able to stream from the major services that you'd expect: Watch ESPN, YouTube, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and, of course, Prime Instant Video. The Stick goes on sale for $39 beginning November 19th and is currently available for preorder. Prime subscribers can get it for $19 for the next two days.

The Fire TV Stick is being advertised directly against the Chromecast, which should be no surprise: the Chromecast is Amazon's best-selling electronic device right now — and Amazon would be happy to see that replaced with something of its own.

Google announces Android TV hardware

from Sony and Sharp at I/O

Google already makes a video streaming stick in the form of the Chromecast, so how will it — and others — go with Android TV hardware? Google answered that question at its developer conference I/O today, with new hardware that will run the set top entertainment operating system.

On stage, Google announced (but did not show off) upcoming 2015 TV sets from Sony, Sharp, TPVision, and Phillips will have Android TV built in. Razer and Asus also plan to make set top streaming boxes that can be added to existing TV sets, with Razer calling its model (pictured below) a "micro-console." Along with these efforts, Google said it's working with Qualcomm, Nvidia, Intel, Broadcom, and others to help push the new version of its home entertainment service.

British govt. wants NFL London team

LONDON -- The British government wants an NFL team based in London. George Osborne, the British treasury chief, told the Evening Standard newspaper on Wednesday that the government will do whatever it can "to make this happen."

The NFL has been playing regular-season games at Wembley Stadium every year since 2007, and this season there are three games on the schedule. But they haven't yet announced any plans to put a team permanently in the British capital.

Netflix Hits a Bump in   "Le Roade.."

September will also see Netflix push into Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. International expansion is a high priority for the streaming service as US subscriber growth has moderated as the pool of people who have never subscribed dwindles lower, compared with big markets like France and German with an ample pool of untapped potential subscribers. In the second quarter, Netflix added 1.1 million subscribers outside the US versus 570,000 new streaming customers inside the US.

MC2BackUp Post 1927 Get a Room FaceBook

Facebook's New App 'Rooms' Lets You Chat Anonymously

From:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com

This is a departure for Facebook, which has had a long-standing policy against using fake names. In contrast, Rooms allows people to contribute anonymously, under multiple pseudonyms. Other anonymous and private apps, like Secret and Whisper, have seen rising popularity,
as have sites like Reddit.
