MC2 Post 2020 Google I/O was pretty much Ho-hum...

Listen to CNET reporter Jason Parker:

I like to dream of features like 3D holographic communication (think "Star Wars"), or projecting photos, videos, or games onto a wall from my phone, but I can admit that neither is necessary -- or even practical, for that matter. And I'd be willing to bet that Apple, Google and even you would feel the same.

Of course, those companies and others are doing exactly the sort of innovative, off-the-wall things I do get excited about -- just not necessarily with smartphones. The really cool stuff at I/O were things like Project Jacquard -- smart clothing! -- and Jump -- create a virtual reality experience from 16 GoPro cameras! Indeed, the most exciting smartphone "innovation" at I/O was the fact that Google's ultra-affordable Cardboard accessory can now turn nearly any phone into a VR headset.

But even that was really just a free app paired with a DIY "case" -- not really an OS-level change to the smartphone's DNA.

Lenovo Shows Off a Phone With Two Screens

Lenovo unveils a smartwatch with 2 screens, and phone
with a projector keyboard

Lenovo has revealed two unusual concept devices at its first global technology event, Lenovo Tech World 2015. The Magic View is a smartwatch with two screens, and the Smart Cast is a smartphone with a built-in virtual keyboard projector module. Both concepts were demonstrated on stage, showing they go beyond simple works-on-paper prototypes.

The Magic View looks like a traditional round watch, but the strap holds a clever second screen which uses reflections to give the impression images are 20 times larger than what

would normally be seen on the small display. It’s necessary to get up close to the watch for the effect to work, which also makes it useful for viewing private messages.

AMD Plans to introduce new Radeon R9 300 GPUs in JUNE

Because of weak demand for personal computers, AMD’s issues with channel inventory as well as competitive positions of its products, shipments of AMD microprocessors and graphics processing units have been dropping for about a year now. Moreover, AMD’s CPU and GPU market shares have been decreasing for many quarters in a row as well. As a result, the primary tasks for AMD’s management is to boost sales and improve positions on the market. According to the chief exec of the company, this is exactly what AMD plans to do in the second half of the year after launching “Carizzo” accelerated processing units, Godavari (Kaveri Refresh) APUs and all-new Radeon graphics processors in the late second quarter.
